Please don’t have New Year Resolutions???!!!

New Year celebrations are growing bigger, wider and wilder - number of people revelling are going up- every year. Social media plays a significant role in it. Everyone is directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously pressurised to do something on a New Year eve. You are forced to celebrate and brag a few snaps on social media.

Nowadays every hotel, resort, club and even residential apartments have New Year celebration parties. The mad rush is such that, your seat is not guaranteed unless otherwise you book it well in advance. Please don’t misunderstand my tone. I too like the concept of welcoming a new year – with red carpet- with so much of joy and energy- eagerly waiting for the clock to touch MN 12; bursting out wildly with loud and bright fire crackers ...of course life is a celebration!

New Year carnival is a mark of first day in a year according to Gregorian or Christian calendar. And it is also celebrated as the feast of circumcision of Chris in accordance with Jewish tradition, eight days after his birth, the day on which the child was given his name.

Gradually it has now become a global festival. The biggest gala on the earth. Successfully united different countries, cultures, religions and social classes- which makes it so special and unique.
But, are we celebrating responsibly? Do we have self-discipline?

I remember one such New Year party, we attended a few years back. That became first and the last. Everyone got drunk beyond limits, became wild in celebration; started interfering in others freedom. Some men took that opportunity to irritate, insult and molest the opposite sex. While returning home, on the road, unruly drunken bikers and car racers gave us some tense moments. Many minor and a few major accidents were reported in the next day’s newspaper.

Today’s newspaper carries a report saying 300 minor accidents in Chennai alone and 3 people have lost their lives during this year’s celebration. In Shanghai 36 died due to stampede while booking their tickets for New Year party.

The bottom line is unless otherwise you are too adventurous, don’t venture out of home on these big days. This is madness. Can’t we celebrate peacefully, safely and let others also have fun? Is that too much to ask for?

Apart from welcoming a new beginning, it is the right time to look back the path we travelled in last 365 days. The GOOD, BAD and UGLY. Certainly I will share with you my GOOD moments of 2014 in this post. Bad and ugly would follow later.
Yercaud batch meet: Meeting friends always makes you feel younger. We stop making friends once we grow older; start suspecting everyone. This is the reason most of us don’t have close friends beyond our UG circle. They know everything about you; your weaknesses, strengths, highs, lows – everything. You need someone to call you dei, vaada, poda macchaan… You need someone to share your secret desires and fantasies.
Apart from that it opened up few more doors to cheerfulness; WhatsApp, Crazy Diaries, Goa bike trip and Plan for Leh Ladakh.
WhatsApp definitely made me a happier person. It became like an extended family. Someone is there to share your feelings 24/7.Being socially awkward introvert, this platform became perfect to express my feelings in writing. WhatsApp opened another surprise door. I started writing, Crazy Diaries; my long time passion. Gave me the confidence, like – someone is there to read whatever nonsense I write.
Another, my long-time dream came true- Goa Bike Trip. These all made 2014, a significant year in my life.

New Year resolution.

I read almost 15 to 20 articles in two days regarding New Year resolution. That made me to write this post.
I never had  New Year resolutions in my life so far.
I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. I do exercise regularly. I am Good, Happy and Flawless… Basically I lead a perfect life. Why should I think about a resolution? Ha...Ha...Ha...
I thought very hard for long.
Controlling Anger
Learning Guitar
Reading classic Novels
Bike trip to Leh Ladakh
Running a full Marathon
It became an endless list. I got confused and finally I came up with this resolution – I will not have a New Year resolution any time in my life. I will explain why…
Like a new year, every month, week, day, hour, minute and second is a new one. Why don’t we welcome that with the same ecstasy and vigour?

And if we want to have a New Year resolution – why to wait so long for a New Year day, why don’t we do it instantly as a new day’s resolution!

Happy New Year 2015!

Please remember – no New Year resolution!

Cheers!
